"The most important element in giving interviews is having complete mastery of your subject matter" -- and the first thing you should be an expert on is ... yourself!

Most interviewers don't want to trick interviewees, they want to get to know them a little in a very limited period of time.

Normally, one starts an interview asking "tell me more about yourself" type questions, to put the interviewee at ease.

In my experience, it is astonishing how many candidates can tell you precious little that is interesting or noteworthy about themselves, their degree, their previous job or why they want this new job.

So, before we've even come onto the more difficult questions, most candidates have already ruled themselves out because they can't even feign interest in their own answers to the easy questions!!
