What’s new on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books List

McLEAN, VA, September 9, 2009 – Here’s the latest book buzz from USA TODAY with a highlight of tomorrow’s Best-Selling Books list:

• Suzanne Collins is too busy writing the final book in The Hunger Games, her trilogy for teens, to do a book tour or even many interviews. But that hasn’t prevented Catching Fire, the second in the series, from landing at No. 1 on USA TODAY’s Best-Selling Books list. The series, set in a futurist dictatorship, features teens forced to fight to the death on TV. It’s been praised by two other writers who’ve reached No. 1 on the list: Stephenie Meyer and Stephen King.

• Harry Potter may have more star power than Robert Langdon but the secrecy surrounding Tuesday’s release of Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol, which features symbologist Langdon (of The Da Vinci Code), is just as palpable. Doubleday is tantalizing fans with Twitter feeds and “Symbol Quest” puzzles at danbrown.com and thelostsymbol.com. The plot is under wraps. Brown will be interviewed on the Today show Tuesday and in USA TODAY.

• Are stressed-out, suddenly thrifty Americans playing their own shrink? You might wonder from the rise on the list of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, up to No. 25. APA publisher Gary R.VandenBos says sales are up 20 percent over the fifth edition released in 2001. He credits the manual’s appearance on USA TODAY’s list — a first — to its sales on amazon.com.
