More Influence, You or Your Publisher?

BTCKyle

Myth # 2, from the 7 Book Publishing Myths

“Your Publisher is all-powerful and all-knowing: Not so much. There was a time a couple of decades ago when publishers had all the answers and know-how to make a book sell. But such is much less the case now than at any other time. Selling a book takes more Author, and less Publisher then ever.”

Let’s look at you, the author, and at how almighty and powerful you really are. After all, without the author’s work – your work – publishers have nothing to publish and retailers nothing to sell. Everything depends on the author. It comes down to this: The one thing consistent in all of your failures – and all of your successes! – is you.

This success comes from your ability:

  1. to do what it takes to succeed and, more importantly,
  2. to be what it takes to succeed.

There’s a subtle, yet massive difference between these two perspectives.

Do-Have-Be Paradigm (Destination living …)

The first is one of running around doing, doing, doing in the hopes of one day finishing your tasks and reaching your destination. This can work, but it’s often exhausting and actually unnecessary.

Do you think Roy H. Williams or Stephen Covey work in this manner? They don’t. Instead, they follow the second perspective:

Be-Do-Have (Journey living…)

Don’t wait until you have a “best-seller.” Instead start today to embody the qualities of that future you. Whether you do this by living in a more healthy manner, managing your time better, becoming a better friend, author or leader: it begins today. And Promote A Book’s platform building expertise for small businesses, enterprises, authors, and thought leaders is here to accelerate your journey. We would love to hear from you.

Once you get “be-do-have,” you’ll be off to the races. You’ll know when to work and when to rest, whom to call, what to write about. And the universe will start to deliver to you those things that best-selling authors have, because you’re embodying the qualities of a best-selling author. Qualities such as being more courageous, more honest, more caring and more grateful.

Two Things to Know About Be-Do-Have

  1. Expect to question the legitimacy of this approach. After all, a large group of North Americans run around in consistent action mode, thinking if they just do enough, maybe things will break through. Your mind needs time to work past this deeply embedded belief.
  2. It’s not a magic pill! Far from it. Expect to be met with challenges as you examine your thoughts, actions and your way of “being.”

Moving this mountain will give you even more to write about. Having internal certainty and clarity will definitely serve your goals.

As a recent addition to the Promote A Book team, I’m confident that “Be-Do-Have” has been a trigger point in my life, into this position. Getting to learn directly from Michael Drew about building a platform in a Civic Cycle is a gift.

Let me know how we can support you in your next step towards more “Be-Do-Have” & more success in your career.
