Fussing with 2011 Planning? Stop and…Simplify!

By Kyle McNeil - Dec 29 , 2010
2011 is soon here. What will the year hold? For a woman from New York, she said something really interesting. That for her 2011, is simply the next chapter in her business, yet to unfold, and she’s not going to force or control it. Possibly a world away from my preference for abiding by the Law of Process (just being honest…). No question though what she shared has a useful place!
Which instantly made me think two things:
- Surrender to reality, good, bad, or indifferent. And allow things to unfold. There’s something very natural and effortless about this.
- A Giant question mark ? (Yes, literally, a question mark symbol came to mind!) — because we don’t know what’s around the bend, and the spontaneity of life can show us the way.
And my goodness, that’s sure a wild ride of unknown, that not everyone is ready or willing to take.
Here’s what I mean by that …
A number of up and coming thought leaders are seeing a lot of warning lights flashing all over their dashboard. Either they’ve hit a ceiling and/or just aren’t communicating with Personas, and they’re missing the mark. Or even worse, they’re learning from idealistic coaches, teachers, and “gurus” in a Civic Cycle.
That aside, after speaking with us, these rising Thought Leaders learn:
A) Speaking gigs in the personal and business development space are down 70-90% in the last 2-3 years, which means – focus on platform!
B) There are big opportunities to connect authentically with their audience, which Idealistic-bred Thought Leaders are not doing, because it’s not “real, raw, and relevant“. Instead they’re doing something else.
Walking away after the call, they now have tough decisions to make. And I empathize with them, because surrendering to the giant question marks is a ride that’s not for the faint of heart.
But then, who ever made it happen in business without doing some quick research, rolling the dice, and taking some action?
I admire these people, and can learn from their ability to just go for it.
How about you? What giant question marks can you surrender to in 2011?
