People Matter – And So Does Technology

By Anthony Garcia - Jan 12 , 2011
When you are an empathetic marketer, it is easy to get lost in the big picture and warm fuzziness of people, relationships, and ideas. In fact, it is easy for me to do the same thing.
There is nothing wrong with this and I wish there were more empathetic marketers walking around.
People, motivations, personality types, and even writing come easy to the empathetic marketer. What may not come as easy for this type of marketer is the technology and the details.
Every once in a while, it does pay off to invest some of your time and get familiar with technology. Not so much so that you can computer code everything yourself, but so that you know enough to communicate with someone that does.
So let me give you my first suggestion on something techie that you can invest about 10% of your time learning.
Mobile matters now more than ever. A Foresee study indicated that this holiday season, a third of online shoppers also browsed and shopping using a mobile browser like the iPhone or Android phone. Your marketing must be mobile friendly.
If learning a tad about mobile technology and design doesn’t motivate you, think of it like this:
People are using mobile, and to be empathetic and customer centric, don’t you owe it to them to know a little bit about it so you can use it meet your customers’ needs and desires?
Sounds empathetic to me.
