Give Your Creativity a Boost

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut. You have a routine. You have certain things you need to do everyday. Eat breakfast. Get dressed. Walk the dog. Get the kids off to school. Get some work done. Pick up the kids. Eat dinner. Brush your teeth. Work some more. Squeeze in a few hours of sleep. Wake up and start the process all over again.

While routines can be effective in getting things done, becoming a slave to routine dulls your creativity. As an entrepreneur, creativity is your lifeblood. The best way to keep your mind healthy and active is to pull yourself from the rut of daily life.

Here are a few suggestions to help find adventure in your purpose to keep creativity healthy and flowing.

  • Take A Detour. If you drive a set route every day that you know so well your car could do it without you, mix it up and take an alternate route. Your mind will wake up to the refreshing change.
  • Switch It Up. Do you put your left shoe on before your right? Do you eat the same thing for breakfast everyday? Do you wash your face before you wash your hair in the shower? Try switching up your routine to rouse your brain.
  • Try Something New. The next time you dine out, ask the waiter his favorite dish on the menu and then order it.

Don’t let the beauty, wonder and novelty of life slip past by living in a rut. Get out of your rut and dust off your creativity. It will help you think and act outside the box, allowing your message stand apart from the crowd and reach your customers.

Do you have a set routine in your daily life? Try mixing it up a bit and let me know how it goes. I’d love to hear your experience.

One of my favorite things to give my creativity a boost is to listen to some classical music (Vivalde is amazing for getting me in the groove) or I listen to an audio version of Dr. Seuss, Ernest Hemingway or a children’s fiction book. Just listened to The Spiderwick Chronicles narrated by Mark Hamill (AKA Luke Skywalker) that was very well done.  Love audiobooks!

My idea of getting out of the routine is going out of town.  I always find it refreshing especially when I see new places and new faces…and probably try new things.  During the holidays I tried the zip-line which is so far the bravest thing I’ve done after roller coaster 2 years ago.  I can still feel my blood rushing through my veins.
