Marketing to the Methodical Personality

Beneath the Cover, writing a book, promote a book, methodical personalityWe’ve been looking at how to market to different personality types. Here we will look at what we call the methodical personality.

Methodical personalities prepare and organize before they take action. For methodical personalities the completion of a task is its own reward. They appreciate facts, they want hard data and they demand that information be presented in a logical manner, otherwise they will tune you out. It’s important to be logical and thorough – because a person with a methodical personality considers logical thinking to be as important as truth. For a methodical personality, if your information is unorganized it will undermine your credibility and trust.

Methodical personalities don’t look for the personal touch. In fact, many of them neither appreciate or value it. They value organization and routine. They loathe negative surprises and irresponsibility. Methodical personalities have a strong internal frame of reference. They prefer to think and speak about details and specifics. They look for mismatches as they compare everything to a standard ideal (what’s missing or what’s wrong, as compared to what they consider to be a standard ideal).

Methodical personalities like order and predictability. They are thoughtful. They plan in advance and want to know all the details. Methodical personalities need to know the details before they will feel comfortable making a buying decision.
