My colleagues and I think that e-book sales will dominate the market by next year.
Why is this significant?
Well, sales of e-books continue to rise in general, despite climbing prices from publishers who are trying to offset the loss in traditional books (that is, those books printed on paper and cardboard), by charging more for their books. Sales of adult e-books increased by 50% in January of this year, compared to a year ago, according to the Association of American Publishers.
They will continue to grow.
Why is this significant for you?
Well, as someone who is creating a book online, or using a platform to build an audience for your work , you are aware of the power of digital content, and digital readership.
But even if you choose to seek to be published through a traditional publisher, you should be aware that it’s increasingly likely that your publisher will want to release your book electronically.
And you should also be aware that you will need to continue to promote your book no matter how it appears. In print. Or in “print.”
Regardless, your job is to get your message out through interacting with your audience. And the best way to do that for now is through your platform, and through blogging, commenting, linking back to your site and continuing to do this.
It’s work. But success is never easy.
