Many of us don’t dream big enough. We daydream, sure, but we don’t go wild. We underplay our talents. We put ourselves down without meaning to, because we too often settle for settling. No wonder so many people are, to put it mildly, discontent.
But all it takes is a moment of daring to change your life. All it takes is the courage to change. Not easy, certainly. But given that we’ve only got one life (as far as I know), it’s better to dare than to simply to retreat.
I should know. I’ve made myself over a few times. I started my professional career helping to promote books – which I still do – and have embarked on an entrepreneurial life, founding companies, and helping people to focus and become thought leaders.
I knew early on in my career that it wouldn’t pay to think small. That would get me nowhere. And I’ve had the benefit of being mentored by some of the best minds around, such as Roy Williams and Ray Bard and others who’ve shown me how to take a dream and make it a reality.
I’ve also done a lot of public speaking, and among my presentations is one called the Pendulum, in which I talk about societal shifts every 40 years or so, when we turn from self-seeking to community-empowering people. We’re now in that community – or civic – cycle, and have been for a few years.
I’m going to be sharing my thoughts on this pendulum in society, and I’m going to talk about how you can take advantage of where we are in our culture to move ahead, and to discover how you can not only be of service to others, but how you can grow and succeed yourself.
The Financial Enlightenment seminar, May 13 and 14 in Salt Lake City, is the brainchild of my good friend Garrett Gunderson. Garrett wrote a terrific book on finance and personal growth called “Killing Sacred Cows: Overcoming the Financial Myths that are Destroying Your Prosperity.” He’ll be talking about the ideas in this book, and he’ll be joined not only by me, but other thought leaders who include Rich Christiansen, motivational speaker Glenn Morshower. Each of us at the seminar will reveal our own “big ideas” with enough detail to inspire you to move forward with your own big ideas – to think beyond your current life and take charge of the future.
Be sure to check out more information on this enlightening event. I look forward to sharing my thoughts with you in person.
